Shift-Control
When companies install an information management systement, it is usually geared towards their business requirements at the time. However, when a database has been in place for a number of years, the business will usually have expanded, along with its information needs. This can cause the application to slow down, become inefficient and hard to maintain and often begin to produce errors.
Shift-Control is an automated application for upgrading the data capability of an Access application by transferring all of its information to a larger scale database platform. This is done invisibly to your users and they can continue entering and retrieving data in the same manner as they always have. This eliminates the need for training on a new system.
The advantages of Shift-Control over a standard database upgrade service are numerous.
- Flexibility. Traditionally, database support companies will upgrade an Access database to Microsoft SQL Server. This is a proprietary, and therefore costly, product to both purchase and maintain. As well as being able to upgrade databases to SQL Server, Shift-Control supports other large scale back end systems, including mySQL and PostGres. These are high-quality and reliable systems, in use by blue-chip companies, and , because they are open source products, both they and their support materials are available free of charge.
- Efficiency. While the operation of the program should be overseen by a qualified professional, Shift-Control is an automated application and the database upgrade process need only be done once. It performs the procedure in a matter of minutes, while you wait. This greatly reduces business downtime and normally eliminates the need for any personnel to work outside of business hours.
